char (C)

In C, char is one of the integer types, having at least 8 bits, and therefore able to represent any of the character codes in ASCII. Its name is a shortened version of "character". To define a char value, single quotes enclosing a single character may be used.

int main(void){
    char c = '&';
    /*the variable c now contains the
    numerical code for the character '&'. */
